Kazakistan 2 - dünyaların organizasyonu kaybolma - Kazak tarihinin yeniden yazma, Cengiz Han ve Timur < yakın tarihi silme < kültürel kimlik için yıkıcı kandırmaca

Worlds organisation disappearance – In contemporary Kazakhstan many various factors of identity do not, strictly speaking, provide a definition for a Kazakh nation, but show – according to Pierre Bonte's and Michel Izard's definition of identity - an endlessly renewed codification of cultural differences between neighbouring groups. Thus construction methods, the processing and the restructuring of social standards are operating in a momentum far beyond the traditional Kazakh individual 'being-in-the-world'. With the will of building a Kazakh identity comes a religious factor exploited by governing powers. What is being played out in contemporary Kazakhstan seems to belong to a range of strategies and practices tending to prevent the effects of the transition from a traditional economic production model to an unbridled liberalism. When searching solutions, Kazakh population is turning to beliefs that feed from the great Central Asian heroic figures of former empires. In this specific frame, the person of the bakhs(Sufi shaman) represents a reliable reference point while the future is full of uncertainty. Ethnic origin and social status do no affect the resort to the bakhs in order to find a solution to their problems. Together, contemporary religious practices are subject to two determination types: on the one hand traditions, and Islam on the other hand. The traditional aspect refers to pre-Islamic legacy of Siberian shamanism, ancient Zoroastrian religion, Buddhist and Nestorian influences. Popular Islam is almost only Sufi. The contemporary period is characterized by the arrival of a normative Islam and Korean Pentecostal charismatic groups. How did the cosmological organisation of the Kazakh worlds disappear as fast as it resisted the Sovietisation? Nowadays, will the massive inflow, due to rural exodus, of mainly Kazakh speaking populations in urban environments, change the linguistic configuration of cities? Nothing could be less certain. The Russian language remains transnational within the former USSR and most of all, westernisation gives a unique local boost to English. The impoverishment and simultaneously the increase in needs diminished the traditional solidarity network as it is whittled away. In the traditional system of beliefs, people had to assist each other according to the requirement towards human beings to preserve the worlds balance. Market logic lead to the disappearance of this reference. All governmental services became chargeable. Water, electricity, gas, phone, health services, are in the process of being privatised and consequently the marginalisation of those who can't pay. One of the keys for reading the contemporary situation is the breach introduced and intended by the authorities since the independence. Cultural identity is a legitimate aspiration, but divorced from necessary growing awareness of the historical situation, it can become dangerous. The re-writing of Kazakh history in view of great figures as Genghis Khan and Timur, erasing recent history leads to a devastating trickery. The loss of collective points of references and the withdrawal into nuclear family can undermine the social organisation as a whole. Until now the younger child inherited the family yurt and looked after his old parents. The exodus to the towns and the duty to find work outside of the family inheritance shows a dramatic isolation of the elders. To die alone without means and the presence of the step daughter to look after the dwelling was until now unthinkable when nowadays common. The situation is nevertheless paradoxical. The plurality of the former organised worlds around the vertical axis of the 'tree of worlds' disappears in favour of a world in the singular that, before it had time to organise, got trapped in globalisation. Bearing in mind that the Kazakh worlds were superimposed, each inhabited by divinities and spirits, and also that the world of human beings found its structure in cardinal points, remembering the organisation of the terrestrial incarnation in cycle from west to east, from place of birth to return of death, how can contemporary Kazakh society delete this entire reason end desire for movement? This virtual world replaces the real and that in the very heart and foundations of the Kazakh Nation: transition to a national identity, that is to an imaginary community, transition to a Muslim religion identity and that is to a same imaginary community of the great Muslim international community. The Kazakh society semi-nomadic is confronted to the fundamental movements of modernity: chronic transformations of the representation of the real and gradually the integration of the Kazakh worlds in a virtual globalized world. young kazakhs by Salkitdin Aitbayev

The day the worlds
collapsed

This paper deals with the re-humanisation of the Kazak post-modern world through the ruptures, the losses and the disappearances which have surrounded the family lives of semi-nomad shepherds from the era of sovietisation to the present day.
And so disaster came to the people of the Genghiz Hills in the summer of 1953 it came in a single hour. The children, tending the goats and sheep behind the village, all heard the terrible cries, screams and women weeping. Leaving the sheep and goats on the steppe, jostling each other as they ran, their bare feet flashing, they rushed to the village. What was taking place there was unimaginable-people were embracing each other, saying farewell, making vows and shouting, weeping. Commotion, confusion, chaos-and we young boys were standing with our mouths open. unaware of the misfortune which had befallen the inhabitants of our quiet and cosy village. Perhaps, war had broken out? It dawned upon some of us that it might be a war against the Americans or some other imperialists and we greedily began to examine the enormous military vehicles and the soldiers rushing everywhere, all of whom seemed to have appeared from under the ground... Can we consider the radically new, the totally different and the all otherly to be ungraspable for the Kazak shepherds through the prism of their traditional representations of the worlds? Are their landmarks in space and time disturbed to the point of ruining their old relation to the worlds?
In the heart of Eurasia, Central Asia has been influenced by India, China, Greece, Mongolia, Turkey and Russia. Likewise, the regions experienced Alexander', Genghis Kahn' and Timur's empires and of course tsarist Russia and the Soviet colonization. The contemporary Kazakh population thus can be described as a mosaic of different origins, languages and religions. In Almaty, people speak: Russian, Kazakh, Uzbek, Kirghiz, Turkish, Chechen, Tajik, Turkmen, German, Polish, Greek and English, the language of the new busyness age. The various strata of the religious landscape show Shamanism, Zoroastrian religion, Nestorian Christendom, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sufism and other popular Muslim alternatives, Russian Orthodoxy and currently an Islam that tries to conceal all those previous religious influences. During most of its history, the Kazakh, no matter what name the may have assumed, were not organized as a Nation, but as scattered tribes or incorporated in a temporary federation of tribes. The Kazakh population division is carried out through three groups; zhuz, uli elder, zhuz orta intermediate, zhuz keche youngest. The zhuz is organized in many tribes of which the number varies according to time and alliances with to each zhuz a specific function. The youngest zhuz keche was traditionally the group in power, from there come the Khans. The intermediate zhuz gathers most artists, poets, writers and craftsmen, the elder zhuz is of the shepherds. At the time of independence, by bringing a shepherd from the elder zhuz to power, the ex-Soviet Union maintained its position against an eventual return of some one from the powerful zhuz keche. The division in zhuz was combined with a social organisation into halves: the white bones (the nobility) and the black bones (the People), the Kazakh shared this type of division with the Mongols.
The herdsmen world begins with the tree of worlds, the vertical axis around which various worlds are organized in layers. One certainty about the sky, each star carries a 'soul' or 'vital principles' and therefore the sky must be gingerly studied. Facing the sky, the herdsman must show respect and fear, so as not to draw attention to the djinns (spirits) on him nor on his family. In any way, taboos are taboos, regardless of the divinity or the spirits owners. Life is everywhere in everything, the stone lives, the mountain lives, the steppe lives. At a person's birth, seeds are planted throughout the planet and he will spend his life to harvest their fruits. Death happens after the last seed harvest that leads man to the 'other world' where he lives as on earth with his family, his friends, his yurt and his herds.
The world was governed by the seasons and the camps changes, by the life inside the yurt with the nuclear family, friends and neighbours, a world balancing between earth and sky, there where human beings belong to. This 'over there' belongs now to inaccessible worlds and feeds the story elders tell the younger generations, children born to live a sedentary life.

In 1991, the independence marks a new disruption along with fundamental social, economic changes due to the opening of the great international market, the wild capitalism and the emergence of criminal mafias. Kazakhstan as other Central Asian republics transfer from imperial Russian autocracy to national autocracy. Men are not prepared to leave their nomadism and women dream of modern urban life. When misery chases poverty, herders did not have any choice, in may 1994 all left their yurts. The contemporary situation of Kazakh herders frames in a schematic showing two main factors: the search for identity and individuation. Anne-Marie Vuillemenot

Anne-Marie Vuillemenot

Arilerle ilgili efsane - İdeoloji, kolonizasyon için çok yararlı (Rusya, Almanya, Türkiye) - tengricilik, neo-paganizm, Zerdüştlük, Şamanizm - Manevi pota - Gerçek etnik kimlik gizleme

What is the intellectual genealogy of Eurasianism, the notion that Russia is separate from Europe and Asia yet combines elements from both continents? This is the question Marlène Laruelle, a prolific young French scholar of Russian national identity, currently at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, she had initially expected to find the answer among some nineteenth-century “Asianist” precursors of the early twentieth-century émigré Eurasianists, who likewise might have looked to the East as a source of their cultural heritage. But the matter proved to be more complicated. In reconstructing pre-Revolutionary Russian thinking about their continental identity, she argues that before the Eurasianists virtually no one denied their nation’s fundamental European origins. While Asia did play a role, this was in the context of an Indo-Iranian “Aryan” ancestry in the distant past. The influence of German and other Western Romanticism is clear. Aryanism first appeared as a result of the discoveries by such eighteenth-century philologists as Sir William “Oriental” Jones about the striking similarities between ancient northern Indian Sanskrit and many modern European languages. In its most notorious form, “Aryanism” was transformed by the likes of the comte de Gobineau, Houston Stewart Chamberlain and Alfred Rosenberg from a linguistic theory into a murderous ideology of racial superiority. The Russian variant, Laruelle emphasizes, remained firmly based in its more gentle Romantic roots. For Russians, “to talk about race makes no sense. They are Christians who speak a Slavic language, and these are the only things that count”.

The idea of an Aryan cradle in Central Asia enabled some Russian academic circles inspired by Slavophilism to argue the “non-colonial” nature of Russian expansion by presenting it as the Aryans coming back to their homeland. These discourses became politicized when the tsarist regime established in Turkistan, and played an important role in several local institutions located in Tashkent such as the Turkistan circle of archeology amateurs.
The Aryan myth origin comes from a religious and scientific hypothesis: the Europeans might have a common origin and their ancestors might have come from Asia during an epic migration from Himalayan Highlands. In its first phase, the Aryan myth was a mode of understanding the world and an attempt to gain more insight into the reasons of the western colonial domination. Later researches endeavour to find a geographical origin of the myth: the discovery of a so called Tocharian language engraved on steles and manuscripts found in the middle of Chinese Turkestan (Xinjiang) gives essential interest for a Central Asian cradle. Furthermore, the Russian Aryan myth will be used as an ideology of colonisation since researches on the Pamir and other places meant to be the homeland of Aryan peoples must reconcile Slavophilism and Occidentalism into a broader unity, ariophilism(ariosofil’stvo).
The instrumental use of the Aryan referent in colonial Russian speeches toward Central Asia is based on these arguments: assertion from the conquered lands of political inability of autonomy; repeated emphasis of internally ethnic diversity; divisions of colonised peoples as allied (the Tajiks) and enemies (the Turkic peoples), and finally the justification for the colonial presence as a fact following the natural course of events.
This article analyses the interactions that exist in Tajikistan between the historical science promulgated by the Academy of Sciences and the political pressure exerted by the authorities in favour of the constitution of an ideology justifying the Nation-state. The two meet around the Aryan theme which has recently become one of the most important historical and ethnological references in local academic publications. The rehabilitation of Zoroastrianism and the assertion of Tajikistan as the « cradle » of the Aryan peoples, formalised by the presidential decree establishing 2006 as « Year of Aryan Civilisation », are being accompanied by numerous ethnicist and racialist discourses that seek to assert the autochthony of Tajiks within a despised Turkic environment. In the politic games of research of the origins currently displayed in the region, Tajikistan wishes to establish itself as the only and unique bearer of Indo-European heritage. The scientific ‘Arianistic’ obsession goes together with an ethnic dissociation, if not racial, between Turkic people and Indo-European people, as unique goal to proclaim the superiority of the second. In contemporary Tajik issue, human sciences remain highly submitted to political pressure even if, unlike in neighbouring Uzbekistan, it is yet possible to express a non-compliant opinion. While only on a speech level expressed and far from any social and political practices of the country, references focused on ‘race’ reveal important ethnic definitions in research and speeches about the Nation in all Post-Soviet Central Asia.
The Zoroastrianism acts as tengrism in the neighbouring Turkic countries, as an intellectualized neo-paganism for the former soviet elites in search for spirituality without transcendence that conceive religion to assert their national identity.

Summary and translation of bibliographic notices of articles from M. Laruelle.

The shadow of the ancestors 2 – Another heritage from Ancient Rome is the way to represent kinship, in terms of measure, dictated by jurists. Built on a spatial understanding of parental organisation, they set up the means to calculate distances between kins in order to settle successions. In the mid 5th century before Christ, the Law of the Twelve Tables already think of:”the respective positions of the kins heirs of the deceased as relative distances”. The word gradus, when meaning degree measuring the distance between generations appears at the end of Republican Rome: at the age of Augustus, Ovid claims that the organisation of kinship through degrees is already widely used. Soon, treaties will be devoted to the theme of which remain, among other evidences, more or less complete, Those of Gaius (2nd century) and Paul (3rd century). It may be assumed that systematised assessments and presentation of kinship degrees are not just accompanied by endless lists of various kinship positions as in Paul's treaty or the Digeste and later on Isidore's Etymologies (7th century); inserted into those, synthetic tables (as later referred to the word stemmata) where each kinship position in relation to the deceased occupies one cell. This is where the earthly and heavenly severance intervenes that appeared during the ceremonies of land surveying and augurium (official divination and interpretation of the wills of the Gods). This severance is taken up by the description of kinship degrees in Paul's treaty that makes it possible to reconstitute the approach according to which such a table could be set. There is first a distinction between right and left, then up and down (or in front of or behind ego). The kinship projection in a two-dimensional space led to a classification of paternal collateral relatives on the upper right corner of the table. Fortunately, such an organisation has been transmitted through a late edited stemma (end of the 9th century) of the Lex Romana Visigothorum, a compilation of legal texts also called The Breviary of Alaric (Breviarum Alaricianum). This stemma bears witness of the Ancient Roman Civil Law which states that the in manu wives, in other words under the authority of their husbands, became his agnates like the direct descents living in the same household and 'remained in his hand', the sui. With descendants of their own onto the 6th degree, sons, daughters and wives compose the three colons that support for the architrave of the building. In its upper part, the stemma takes an asymmetrical shape leaving the upper left quarter of the table empty since, there remains, only the collateral male lineage to the 6th degree. As the number of possible positions for the collaterals decreases, according to the distance between the common elder and Ego, the table in this upper part invokes a right angle triangle of which the external boxes or degrees represent a stairway. The word scala is indeed used by the jurists. Pilasters, architraves and the staircase degrees: thus, not only a spatial but also architectural representation become obvious with this type of stemma. It is similar to the arts from the Memories of the Ancient Past when the rethoricians, according to their imagination, organized inside buildings and in appropriate order, objects and characters, or facts and notions that they had to memorize.
During the Middle-Ages, the Roman conceptions of kinship and its significant translation with patterns, were transmitted through various channels, first and foremost where the specialists in civil procedures integrated ancient law treaties.

To provide meaning to kinship metaphorical language, it's absurd to think of translating the stemmata of the atrium into 'genealogical tree', as for the translating of law treaties. For the stemmata, the structure of the tree is never raised by their contemporaries. The Roman lawyers do not resort to the arbor (Latin for tree) when designing their patterns. There are numerous references to the plant kingdom in the medieval Latin vocabulary of kinship but mostly partial and literary. Branch or twig, offspring, stump and stem form the vocabulary of that time to describe the metaphorical component parts of a collective genealogy; but before jurists, poets, orators and historians seize upon them. The principal concept that provides patrician stemmata their visual unity is based on a streaming flow from the ancestors onto the last male descents: flow of strips, uniting the names and images, metaphor for the flow of blood or sap of a great body. Save for some exceptions, the image does not provide the global construction of a human body or a tree, but it gives a general expressive idea of those vital things flowing that transmit life and identity. In so far as the metaphor for blood represents an agnatic line kinship, consanguineus provides evidence of the jurists state of mind prior to the abstract establishment of the kinship degrees gradus. The succession law patterns were meant to exhaustively cover kinship area limited by the 6th degree, whereas the stemmata in the houses were necessarily selective as they represented male and female ancestors when they occupied a high ranked judiciary function.

Shadows of ancestors – The flow from generation to generation, as the soul of genealogy was often thought as a measure of time; through it, the Middle Ages also found the mean of understanding the motion and drift of time. Yet, it did not only stick to describe with words the time series or the kinship ties with their perceptible flow of the years; it has projected those in a two-dimensional space. For is it possible to think of time and not spatialise it? As in many other cultures, the medieval clerics had to face the problem of organising in a real space – wall, papyrus scroll or parchment, codex sheet – the partition of individuals in genealogies trickled down the generations,. Another problem was to suggest the set of reciprocal relationships in order to make the temporariness that gather them all perceptible. For the medieval clerics, deep political and intellectual thresholds interfered with and clouded the transmission of the perception of continuity; thus the legacy of Rome can be guessed more than measured. The treatment of how the Ancients conceived the projection of time in space is the option selected as to its forms – ritual, symbolic, intellectual. Indeed their ways of orientation in space, the method of dividing and articulate space underlie their representations of time. Also words, concepts and values that tied recurrent ideas will be examined in the perspective of this imaginary world in which medieval artists and thinkers drew their inspiration.
The projection of genealogical time in space has built upon, in Latin civilisation, not only in comparison to the past but also upon techniques of dividing space in this specific culture. The real genealogies and the theorising of kinship ties valid under law linked to very concrete social practices have been translated in images that had been, at one moment or another of their history, designated by stemmata. The patrician families' atria (sing. Atrium) of Rome were conservatories for the family glories. One could see, against the walls, armaria wooden boxes, often shaped like small temples, topped with a tympanum and protected by doors. Each sheltered a portrait of a deceased that held a curule office. During ceremonies, cabinets were opened and these imagines were crowned, these portraits of ancestors were the same as those worn during the funerals of gens members; they were extracted from the private family home. Parents or friends, later appointed histrions, marched in the funeral procession where they publicly mimic the deceased ancestors after they put on the waxed masks and the cloths corresponding to the highest positions filled by their prestigious ancestors. Atria walls of the patrician dwelling vestibule were also decorated with other figures that bear a mystery; through texts we know that the wall surface of the atrium carried what the Romans called stemmata. The plural of the Greek word stemma that meant strips, interlacing or crown was the decoration of an ancestor image and constituted the key element to Roman genealogies; deriving from this meaning it became the genealogical chart and the noble heritage to a family. The stemmata images were also painted on the atrium or the fresco hallway walls. These portraits linked to each other with ribbons or lines, or organized in series marked by binder scores could have represented the shape of an autonomous genealogy. Is the representation of Roman genealogies closer to a network of lines running between portraits or connected to names or name lists? In the atrium's stemmata, the ancestor founder of the family specificity, the princeps nobilitatis, was certainly placed at the highest level. The whole organisation ranged his descents under him as it allowed a further lateral grouping. The link ribbons between names or images also ought to reach back the wife's ancestors who, through the alliance brought her forebears wax and thus introduced their name and their painted images in her husband's ancestors cluster. The patrician atrium genealogy connected the symbols of the deceased and established the path of various kinships; giving a position to the relatives by marriage and to the cognates. Rome did not have any other genealogical memory than that of images, this very political memory was necessarily selective or fictional.
Thus, the Roman aristocracy stemmata were made of two fundamental elements: the manes of the ancestors (or the portraits) linked to each other by supple lines of which the tangle, with no doubt often confusing, was organised top-down form a distant ancestor to more recent generations. The Middle Ages gathered theses antique traditions echoes.

Moulins, a castle, a duchy, a family – We can suppose that, in its first state, Moulins Castle, mentioned as early as the 11th century, corresponded to a feudal clod overlooking the river Allier. Feudal clods were generally formed of a mound of ten to hundred meters in diameter, several meters high, crowned by a circular or quadrangular wooden tower surrounded by fencing overlooking the farmyard, i.e. a cluster of several houses sheltering herds, commoners and crops. The wooden tower, often a military watch tower, could serve as the seigniorial dwelling and in this case was very imposing. This whole area was surrounded by a ditch protected by a fenced embankment, crowned with sharp stakes to ward off danger.
Gradually this first defensive enclosure was to become the instrument of power of one family that transformed it into a fortified castle, evidence of the feudal strength of the Lords, then into a palace, testimony of the prestige of the Dukes of Bourbon. From 1366 onwards, the 3rd Duke of Bourbon, Louis II, was to undertake repairs to the castles, walls and fortifications of the towns in the Bourbonnais, damaged by the Hundred Years' War. It was also to fit out fortresses capable of withstanding the enemy while allowing a great lord to lead the life his rank demanded. He had the great square keep built, which was later named the “Mal Coiffée” (the “Dishevelled”) because of its funny roof. According to Cabaret d'Orville, the cavalier view of Guillaume Revel around 1460, apparently shows us the town as Louis II had designed it. After 1523 and the incorporation to the French crown, the palace was occupied when royal guests came to stay. As from the 17th century, the badly maintained buildings experienced the vicissitudes of time. According to Florent d'Argouges, there was already a prison in 1686 located in the old palace to the south. After the Revolution, having become state property, the castle in ruins was sold in 1792, and in 1807, the departmental authorities recovered the prison. During the Second World War, the “Mal Coiffée” became a German prison, and housed collaborators at the time of the Liberation. It remained a prison until 1983.

The Bourbonnais was formed owing to the settlement, in the 10th century of the feudal family f the Archambauds who through a beneficial alliance became the Bourbons in the 13th century. As early as the 10th century, the pwer of the Lords, and later the Dukes of Bourbon, was to rely on the conquest or the building of castles that made it possible to encircle the land which was to become the Bourbonnais in the 14th century. The pact between the Archambauds and the monastery of Cluny – the gift of Souvigny land to Cluny in 915 – enabled the lords to convert earthly goods into spiritual ones. This gift explains the importance in the development of Burgundian-influenced religious art in Souvigny and its surrounding area. As from the 12th century, the Bourbonnais was too widespread for the Lords to be able to manage themselves: a lot of land became lord's domains run by vassals to whom the levying of dues owed to the lord fell, some of which were paid in money, the others in kind: grain, poultry, oil, etc. Running the castle and the exchanges that were to ensue from the relationship of suzeran and vassal were confirmed during the ceremony of homage by oath. The Lords of Châtelmontagne, Bressoles and La Palisse can be found among the vassals of the Archambauds. It was up to the Lord to see to the improvement of the castle's defensive role. The castle's purpose was capital at the time; it was the administrative and legal seat essential to the smooth running of the seigniory, hence the need to protect it. The house of the Bourbons drew closer to the royal house of the Capetians by paying homage to the king, by remaining loyal to this link and through marriages. Their son Louis Ist became Duke of Bourbon in 1327 and started building the castle in Moulins and its fortifications. Throughout the 14th and 15th century, the Dukes endeavoured to improve the castle's military apparatus, its function as residence and the defensive system of Moulins. During the forty-four years of his reign, Louis II carried out a policy of military construction in the Bourbonnais. The Duke was to grant rights to the towns to enable the repairs of their fortifications, in particular in Souvigny, Gannat and Montluçon. Built to defend the land, constantly repaired and strengthened on the initiative of Louis II, the fortifications enabled the people to withstand the dark hours of the Hundred Year's War, to hold out against foreign invaders and the companies in their pay or to resist as powerful a neighbour as the Duke of Burgundy. According to the invasions of virgin lands, to the gifts and to warring alliances or marriages, the land was divided, reconstructed in movements of variable length that the Lords then the Dukes were to command until their peak in the 15th century. They had already secured the legitimacy of their authority and kept alive the memory of their prestigious lineage.
