C.G. Jung : Psişe, persona, ilktip - karmaşık davranış şekli: kısmen toplum tarafından dikte; kısmen ne insan isteklerine tarafından dikte - kişilik bölünmesi: ben kim evimde? ben kim alenen?

The World Within - C.G. Jung in His Own Words

When you observe yourself within, you see moving images, a world of images, generally known as fantasies. In early childhood, a character is already there, the child is born with existing defining values, that give the child his character; already in early childhood a mother recognizes the individuality of her child. Later on, these values express themselves in other particularities. There is a definite, inherited complexity, we are born into a pattern, we are a structure that is pre-established: it is a biological order of our mental functioning, a pattern that makes him specifically human, no man is born without it. We are deeply unconscious of this fact,  because we live all outside of ourselves. If a man could look into himself he would discover it, and when a man discovers it, he thinks he is crazy; and he may be crazy (then he smiles!) .
Figures of my fantasies brought home to me the crucial insight that there are things in the psyche which I do not produce but which produce themselves and have their own life. While people live a conscious life, all the time a miss is played in your conscience. It can be a stream of archetype ideas that goes on through the centuries. In the time before information people dreamt of the great change and that's the reason why such great transformation could be predicted. When you observe the world you see people, you see houses, you see the sky, you see tangible objects, but when you observe yourself within, you see moving images, a world of images, generally known as fantasies. Yet these fantasies are facts, it is a fact that a man has such and such a fantasy, and it is such a tangible fact for instance that when a man has a certain fantasy a bridge can be built or a house, these houses then were all fantasies. Everything you do here, all were fantasies to begin with. And fantasy has a proper reality, fantasy is not nothing, it is of course not a tangible object but it is a fact nevertheless, it is a form of energy, it is a manifestation of something and that is a reality, it is for example the Peace Treaty of Versailles. When you observe the stream of images within, you observe an aspect of the world, of the world within. And the man who is going by the external world, by perception, thinks that he is more valid because this is valid, this is real, and the man that goes by the subjective factor, he is not valid because subjective is not real; no, that man is just as well based because he's basing himself upon the world from within. So he is quite right even if he says :"oh it is nothing but my fantasy". The introvert is always afraid of the external world but yet to possess the world from within gives him his dignity, certainty because it is, nowadays particularly, that the world hangs on a thin thread, the psyche of man. Assume certain fellows in Moscow lose their nerves or their common sense and the whole world is in fire and flames, we are not threatened by natural catastrophes, there is nothing like the 'H' bomb,  the 'H' bomb is all man doing, we are the great danger, the psyche is the great danger. ]...[ Man is born with a certain functioning, a certain pattern of behavior and that is expressed in the form of archetypal images. For instance the way in which a man should behave is given by an archetype. If you are unconscious about certain things that ought to be conscious, then you are dissociated and then you are a man who's left hand never knows what the right hand is doing. I noticed with some of my patients that in public life they have a certain way of presenting themselves; for example a doctor is going to behave as expected for a doctor, with good manners, he may even identify himself with it and believes that he is what he appears to be. The persona is a complicated system of behavior which is partially dictated by society and partially dictated by the expectations, sort of wishes, of what man thinks to have. Despite of the fact that the person thinks it is real, sure, yet it is not. Such a performance of the persona is quite alright as long as you know that you are not identical with the way in which you appear. For those who can't do the difference, which is the real man ? The man that he is at home or is he the man that appears in public ?

The Worried Man in Turkish literature (3) Loneliness as absolute value                An additional insight on the value and fate of the individual stands for in Ferit Edgü's collection of short stories from the years 1950 to 1960. Underlined by the novel Kaçkinlar  1959, verses of Henri Michaux's poetry : " when the clock ticks away the mad man hear another tic-tac.", this text called "Ilk Kaçkin" opens with an introductory passage in which the narrator, as in almost all his writings, is locked in a room and thinks over and over of his problems, questions and anxieties. The outside world is only a threat. The scenery is often the same : rooms cheaply furnished, poorly lit corridors, doors with chipping paint. Here existentialistic lyrics are to be found, in literature as in painting, those of European art from after 1945. The only concession made in this Istanbul landscape, the sea glanced from the housing. We did not stress often enough that it is in these texts, work of a young author passionate about Beckett, Michaux and Kafka, that all the negative awareness plays a crucial role for the new Turkish prose. Toward abstraction and despoilment as with Mübin Orhon's paintings. All the texts of the three first collections of short stories are based on the same logic: it is a question of giving clues on someone's disorders (fantasies and dreams) that the outside world, things, parents, city, women, disturbs and leads to a despair hitherto unseen in Turkish prose. For these Kafkaesque characters, temptation for suicide or insanity is constantly present: but when this nihilism can be overcome, it creates space for regeneration. As with Ferit Edgü, his stay in the East (in Hakkari province) has allowed a new vision of life accompanied by a new way of writing. However political concerns of authors reflect in the writings. Beyond a sexual and moral frustration they seek to imply the frustration of the generation...They are the representatives of the 'pain of the century', the Turkish Weltschmerz  of the year 1950.

Women - What cannot be overlooked is that the years 1950 witness women expression: intense social and family anger, regrets, extinct passion, sanctioned sexual desires. Gecede of Leylâ Erbil, contains the shortened issue of women writings: claimant, rebel with men, the liberation of the unmentioned ... In this short text, an old voice on an altered rhythm translates the resentment and the passion of a lifelong frustration; the text condenses the middle class life under the Republic. More than many other Turkish writers, Leylâ Erbil helps us to discern this urban social class, its self-understanding and its weaknesses....                                                                                                            From the social point of view (routine appearances) as much as when about sexual life (here, incest obsession) , when the woman speaks, she tells the inability of the society to understand, embrace her modernity. The deep chasm between generations, the over-dominance dreamt by a group of men who overshadow their existence find here a place to express : in the nagging monologue a bit disjointed of an abandoned person, close to death: ".... when I will be dead you will do it with whom you wish, your father did not spend a dime for this house, half of my teeth were pulled out, I have hollow cheeks, where are the keys to the safe, I can't calm my face nerves, I can't think about anyone else but you ...." . Literature has never asserted itself otherwise than through conventional ideas subversion. It is a necessary freedom space.

The Worried Man in Turkish literature (2) The individual experiencing an existential crisis. among young authors of the years 1950 appears a sort of fake modernity, a despair which admittedly relies on a real substance ( aging anxiety, the situation of the country, etc...) but revisited in order to be in harmony with the global definition of literature at the time of Camus, Sartre, Kafka and American novelists of the years 1920-1930, particularly Hemingway and Faulkner. Several prose writers of the lost generation (Demir Özlü, Ferit Edgü, Orhan Duru, etc...) expressed their intentions to the point of where drawing wider conclusions about the goals of literature was necessary:" The appearance of the individual ...his own world ... the individual longing for freedom. Alienation in all its form hampering the individual, his fate, his liberation, the struggle ahead... This is the infinite number of sources of contemporary literature".

However, the use of disturbances applies to Demir Özlü: his first book of short stories, Concern (Bunalti), published in 1958, evokes burial and funeral wanderings (dreams, daydreams and musings, inclination, and murderous intentions, ...) in an urban context. The narrator tells his discomfort, his view of the world as a bottomless well, dispossessed of people and things: in other words, he is a foreigner in this world. His second and third books of short stories (Soluma) (1963) and (Boguntulu Sokaklar) (1966) continue to elaborate this universe: streets, boulevards, channels, water bodies, crossroads and squares where the narrator wandered, was disoriented, set themselves as a sort of abstract urban geography of the city as in Delvaux's paintings. Almost corresponding to the definition of urbanism, not missing one of the elements that usually describes the city, saturated with objectivity, it is also a space where a sort of individuality still can express: the last human being, concerned narrator, is naked in the center of a Potemkine  city.

Places with no name, a narrator/actor "I" , are delivered in a geometric design of an urban organization where "he" is not totally lost but  where wandering is the rule. We find the logic of dream , we left the realism to meet the "dreamed city". Or to use Bachelard's irony: " we dream before we contemplate. Before being a conscious spectacle, every landscape is a dream like experience. There are three or four storeys stone houses with dust façade including some old ones and for most of them coated with yellow rendered stone (...) It is a street half stones, half earth, the walker understands that, step by step, he fell in the nests of the countless crossing streets. Boguntulu Sokaklar is interesting for we can see the recovery of the individual: firstly erased, then deleted in favor of dominating architecture and urbanism, he reappears in a nearly visible form at the end of the text: in love, anxious, increasingly tangible. We understand that this modern human being is looking for a woman. The woman. The Turkish text is using the word sevda/passion which appears to be somewhat improper, where it should instead say desire. Despite his search of the abstraction and his will to stage the harshness of feelings, the city and the individual meet each other in order to express a certain desire. It is a question of a quest for love becoming an obsession : to understand or to approach the other. The last stage before the formal establishment of the individual. Timour MUHIDINE

The Worried Man in Turkish literature (1) - Classical Ottoman literature has been criticized, especially in the field of poetry, to obscure the person, to hide the author in favor of a formal exhibition marked by the predecessors imitation, the cornerstone of intellectual high quality. The issue of narrative prose is different to the extent that it belatedly appeared, in the middle of the 18th century, framed by a modernized literary life: embryonic press and publications of the Tanzimat  years (Ottoman driven reforms since 1839).                                                                                                                    The Man of Burgaz :  chosen or imposed loneliness?
Existential anxiety, this profound doubt that is taking over the Turkish man is nowhere to be better  found than in Sait Faik writings. While many wrote about him as initiator of new forms - we might as well say new conceptions - of prose, his life can't be silent up, a life based on a perceptible social exclusion; annuitant, late student, a long time unmarried, he stayed with his mother on an island of the Marmara sea, he keeps company with the literary and artistic world of Istanbul  but experiences a real exclusion in professional  domain; he who so much wanted to make his writings a living, his identity card bears the inscription  "mesleksiz" (unemployed). He is not a teacher, he does not work in the press nor in publications, he is a man on the margin of society, under the Republic of the years 1930 to 1950 this 'writer' status was not sufficient, as a matter of fact Sait Faik too strongly to be sincere, evokes artists Bohemian utopia, often left wing from Beyoğlu, an indecipherable  blend of attention to policy and practical necessities oblivion.  Thus drawn down on these social, emotional and sentimental margins his work will best reflect the urban Turkish society of his time: an extended family where dispossessed are on the centre stage and where minorities - for the last time in history - fall within at the very heart of the narrative. Like in American novels the have-nots , the wanderers reinvent the literary landscape, Sait Faik novels indicate the presence of a somewhat different shape of man, in contrast to the figure of the little man in the city: the humble and darker man - we see in French and Turkish the old and religious connotation of the words - will gain in greatness through literary allusion.                                                                                                          In 1944, one among those that will become the most fruitful literary critic, Vedat Günyol, discovers Sait Faik and his capacity to avoid inanimate characters and to  develop a prose based on moods, feelings, impressions onto which figures are grafted. Bur first of all the texts from 1940 (and the consecutive ones until 1954) drew up his thematic for good: "Lüzumsuz Adam" (The Useless Man ), the novel gave its title to the book in 1948, he takes up the theme of the lonely man, affected by misanthropic flashes as well as by outraged generosities, and creates a new type of human being : on the fringe of society, an agitated man who works, creates a certain amount of common sense, revolt and brotherly love that good people don't possess any more. In his last book published during his life, Alemdağ'da Var Bir Yılan There's a Snake at Alem Mountain, Sait Faik's style asserts itself without limitations as a metaphysical exaltation: the various short stories provide a new enjoyment: to stare at a suffering and pain of a worried narrator, more than worried, distraught dealing with his being in the absence provided by the crowd. A second aspect enriches the expression of the novel: the evocation of a worrisome, unclear and confused sexuality yet very intense.  Being alone is an art, suffering is a duty.                                            Revolt, anger, doubt to finalize the unease and the anxiety began to take over literary characters, the "personae". Timour MUHIDINE

ISLAM AND CIVIL SOCIETY IN TURKEY - First of all, while in the 1980s the military repression following the coup hit all political groups, including the religious National Salvation Party, some religious protagonists, fragmented in an unarticulated religious renewal, began to consider links from their presence with social life were more useful than with a political process witnessing at the time loss of capacity or other interruption in a 'secular' republican context. This allowed to not give rise to the military repression when it scrutinized any repolitisation attempt of industrial action: and also to build the foundations of answers to social requests in terms of information, education and interpretation, furthermore more simply of intellectual curiosity, in need of more accurate religious knowledge about rituals and more specific religious fields knowledge that the secular republican regime. All this based on facts that the secular republican system has never called into question and that the last coup, yet Kemalist, tried to rehabilitate. Worship activities were the basis of a recovery, included in a commercial sense (many religious groups autonomously started at that point to set publishing and distribution activities of books) and a new legitimization of their existence. This trend obviously involved a strategy to diversify messages and audiences, and attempted to coincide the religious thought with the requests versatility which imposed a greater attention to social evolution. There was a second element in this direction after 1985, the political come back of the religious party newly refer to Welfare Party (Turkish: Refah Partisi, RP). For fear to republican repression, this party developed a policy of local anchoring, by multiplying firstly its contacts with existing groups (tarıkat , more or less closed user groups but well present on social and political life on a local up to sometimes a national level) and on the other hand by developing associative mechanisms according to various but religious objectives (charitable, educational, cultual as the construction of the mosque in the neighborhoods ...etc). From the part of rural conservative interests, it became the mutation party, clearly supported in semi-urban areas with uncertain outlooks. An inventory was necessary of new modes of investigation and mobilization in light of the fact that the multiplicity and difficulty of issues with the resulting urban planning problems imposed social instead of doctrinal references. As they became managers accountable to a future electorate, Islamists were forced to conduct all social strata with problems in which they were not really experienced. One could almost say that in this Turkish context, a sort of dialectical relationship exists between the civil society problem and religious trends in that their presence on the political area and power represents a real life size attempt to test the capacity of social dialog to initiate new mediations in real life setting of shift-systems and alternatives. Are the human rights claim and the community rights claim compatible ? Indeed, one of the great unknowns of this political development is to know if beyond the openness of a public space that mainly affects elites, democratic social aspiration will not give rise to identitarian closure leading to a 're-communitisation' through traditionalist matters (ethnic, ethnocultural) or through blended and hybrid identities that could cause renewed fragmentation and politicization of the population and public space. Nowadays in Turkey, in the multitude civil concerns, isn't there a confusion between political tool and political matter? Civil society seems more like a tool intended to open the field of debate, to mobilize the involvement of actors and to initiate a new political expression than a full political objective. As a very function of the role of civil society mediation, it may be necessary in Turkey to ask ourselves what is the effective definition of 'politic' for it is too often confused with the politician system in force.Gérard GROC

Ural altayca - türk dilleri - akademik kavga - yanlış anlama ve siyasi hedefleri - Ural, Yugria / Yugria, Hungarus / Mansi,Magyar /

THE ”UGRIC-TURKIC BATTLE”: A CRITICAL REVIEW
The wide Altaic language group is formed by various individual groups: 1) Mongolian-Manchu-Turkic; 2) Finno-Ugric; 3) Samoyed. These groups, judging from the nature of the development of the words, the formation of the derived words and the compared language forms, as well as some general tendencies of assembling the words, show similarities with each other.

In Uralic studies it is usually taken for granted that the uniqueness of the Finno-Ugric node, and therefore the existence of a unique Finno-Ugric family, was established in the final decades of the 19th century using systematic, scientific methods of analysis. This is based on supposedly compelling linguistic evidence, mainly from J. Budenz, a German linguist active in Hungary in the last decades of the 19th century. There are two problems with the evidence put forward by J. Budenz. Firstly, although he claims to have adopted a systematic method of analysis (based on the Comparative Method), in fact he does no such thing. For example, he does not state the phonological criteria that are adopted for establishing the correspondences, so that it is not possible to ascertain their validity. In fact, 81% of a significant sample of his correspondences are no longer considered valid in the modern literature. Secondly, even if J. Budenz’ conclusions had been supported by a testable method of systematic analysis, he recognizes a significant number of Turkic/Hungarian correspondences, and concludes that some of these are indicative of a relationship between Hungarian and Turkic! Between the 15th and 17th centuries it came to be taken for granted that this homeland could be identified with an area near the Ural mountains called Yugria (hence the terms ”Uralic” and ”Ugric”). This belief was based on the apparent similarity between the toponym Yugria and the ethnonym hungarus. This connection was supported by a later discovery that one of the populations in the area (the Voguls) called themselves Mansi, which, according to B. Kálmán ”to the lay ear slightly resembles the name magyar”. The connection magyar/Mansi is still regarded today as strong evidence in support of the Finno-Ugric/Uralic theory, and it is still assumed to this day that Hungarian shares a privileged relationship with the languages in the Yugria area. Vogul, Ostyak and Hungarian are still held to form the conventional Ugric node, even though it is now generally recognised that Hungarian is radically different in phonology, morphology, lexicon and syntax from the other Ugric languages (Abondolo 1987; Sammallahti 1988; Helimski 1984 : 253). In a period of about thirty years to the end of the 19th century researchers began to apply Darwinian models to language development and to use the newly emerged Comparative Method. In the meantime, the Ugric theory, that is, the belief that Hungarian, Vogul and Ostyak are genetically related, was extended to include the languages of northern Europe (such as Finnish, Lapp, Mordvin, Zyrian etc.), and put on a supposedly scientific footing. In fact, J. Budenz first attempted to apply the Comparative Method to examine the correlations known at the time to exist between Hungarian and Turkic on the one hand, and between Hungarian and the ”Ugric” languages (Vogul, Ostyak, Finnish, Lapp, etc.) on the other. Starting in the 1870s, J. Budenz, through a number of publications, argued that Hungarian was more closely related to the Ugric languages than it was to Turkic. Therefore, it was to be classified as Ugric. He supported this conclusion with a corpus of lexical Hungarian/Ugric correspondences. Despite his correct programmatic and methodological intentions, J. Budenz did not specify the sound-rules by which he tried to establish his Hungarian/Ugric correspondences. Furthermore, arbitrary stretches of meaning were often accepted in order to establish the desired correspondence between Hungarian and a Ugric language, or to reject an undesirable Hungarian/Turkic correspondence. In a word, Budenz’ corpus turns out to be of very poor quality, particularly in the light of modern linguistic knowledge. In contrast to this picture, in the modern theory the Uralic languages are held to be completely unrelated to the Altaic languages. The number of correspondences Hungarian shares with the Altaic languages (and Yukaghir) nearly match the number of correspondences Hungarian shares with the Ugric/Uralic languages, according to modern knowledge.
