The curatorial team of The 2nd Roma Pavilion – "Call the Witness" announces an open call for submissions from artists, researchers and media archives. "Call the Witness," to be presented in Venice in 2011, is an interdisciplinary collaboration aimed at presenting contemporary and new media art by Roma artists from different regions and cultures.

The curatorial team of The 2nd Roma Pavilion – "Call the Witness" announces its open call for artists, researchers and media archive.

This project, which will be presented in Venice in 2011, is conceptualised and curated by the interdisciplinary collaborative curatorial team of Suzana Milevska, Vladan Jeremic, Rena Raedle and Enisa Eminovska.

The 2nd Roma Pavilion – "Call the Witness" is an interdisciplinary collaboration that aims at fostering, producing and presenting contemporary and new media art by Roma artists from different regions and cultures. At the core of the project lies the concept of the contemporary artist as an instantaneous witness of his/her time who is not a passive viewer but rather acts as an active participant in solidarity with the events and people that provoked his/her art work. Such a phenomenon, wherein art becomes a potential agent of social makeover, acquires a completely new prospect in this period of digitalisation and globalisation, and may greatly affect Roma communities.

We issue a "Call for Witnesses" to bring to light testimonies and statements from artists and researchers that will raise awareness of the different situations of Roma communities throughout the world, ranging from displacement and discrimination to successful emancipatory processes. The question: who has control over the means of representation and has the power to promote the dominant cultural and moral values concerning Roma communities provoked us to put emphasis on new media art as an available means for self-presentation and self-reflection. ]…]

The project 2nd Roma Pavilion - "Call the Witness" is organised by the Roma Media Base – a Skopje based organisation for archiving, producing and presenting contemporary and new media art by Roma artists and communities, and the Biro for Culture and Communication from Belgrade. L’équipe des conservateurs de la Seconde Exposition d’art Rome – ‘Appel à Témoin’ lance des invitations de participation à des artistes, des chercheurs et archivistes des médias. ‘Appel à Témoins’ sera présentée à Venise en 2011 organisée autour d’une collaboration interdisciplinaire chargée de présenter les travaux d’artistes Rome, originaires de différentes régions, d’art contemporain et des nouveaux médias.

L’équipe des conservateurs de cette Seconde Exposition d’Art Rome – ‘Appel à Témoins’ annonce l’ouverture des candidatures aux artistes, chercheurs et archivistes des médias. Ce projet présenté à Venise en 2011 a été élaboré par l’équipe interdisciplinaire des conservateurs, Suzana Milevska, Vladan Jeremic, Rena Raedle et Enisa Eminovska.

Date limite fixée : pour les artistes et chercheurs 15 mars 2010/ pour les archivistes des médias 1 mai 2010

La seconde exposition d’art Rome – ‘Appel à Témoins’ reposera sur une collaboration interdisciplinaire visant à promouvoir, produire et présenter des œuvres d’art contemporain et des nouveaux médias d’artistes romes de différentes régions. Au centre du projet, le concept de témoignage instantané de l’artiste contemporain de son temps qui, loin d’être un spectateur passif, agit en tant que participant actif des évènements et en relation avec les personnes qui l’ont inspiré. Une telle conception, où l’art devient un agent potentiel de mutation sociale, se place dans une perspective extrêmement nouvelle au sein de l’ère de digitalisation et de globalisation qui pourrait considérablement influencer les communautés romes.

Nous exposons ‘Appel à Témoins’ afin de mettre en lumière des témoignages et des déclarations d’artistes et de chercheurs qui éclairciront les différentes situations des communautés Romes dans le monde en partant de leur déplacements forcés et des discriminations pour arriver à des dynamiques d’émancipation réussie. La question : qui a le contrôle sur l’expression de la parole et le pouvoir d’encourager les valeurs culturelles et morales dominantes des communautés romes ? Cette question nous a amené à mettre l’accent sur l’art des nouveaux médias comme un moyen conforme à la libre présentation de son image et de son identité.]…]

Le projet de la Seconde Exposition d’Art Rome ‘Appel à Témoins’ est organisée par Roma Media Base – une organisation de Skopje qui archive, produit et présente l’art des nouveaux médias d’artistes et de communautés romes et par le Biro for Culture and Communication de Belgrade. Le projet est soutenu par l’Open Society Institue, par d’autres organisations et autres mécènes.
